Furmont Day
gets two tails up

Thurmont’s first Furmont Day was held at the Guardian Hose Company carnival grounds on Saturday, June 2. Daisy (above) owned by Jennifer Jackson won the award for the best costume, one of the many awards given out during the event.

THURMONT, Md. – If the number of wagging tails were any indication, it was clear at the first Furmont Day that both man and his best friend were having a great time.

Forty dogs and their owners braved the heat and showed up at the event to compete in various events. Awards were handed out for the smallest dog, largest dog, waggiest tail, singingest dog, best costume, favorite pet photo and winner of the doggy musical chairs.

The families involved in the suit were granted awards ranging from $317,101 to $699,733 for economic damages, property loss and pain and suffering. Coppock said that he was not surprised by the outcome of the trial and thought the award was fair and “right in line with the damages that they » full story

unveils new monument

The memorial service was held on May 30. The flags at Memorial Park flew at half mast and the Thurmont Middle School Band played patriotic tunes. The weather was pleasant for the event as hundreds of people sat in the shade of the huge trees that had been planted to remember fallen veterans from past wars as the newest veterans were remembered.

“This day is sacred with the almost visible presence of those who » full story
