Survey was meant for planning not annexation

THURMONT, Md. – The planning and zoning survey conducted in late 2005 has been used by some to support annexation of property into the town and more often, by others opposing annexation.

It is meant for neither, according to some members of the Thurmont Planning and Zoning Commission.

Vet gets home improvement
thanks to business donations
Local veteran Adam Kisielewski (inset) received some donated help to finish off the basement in his home from Paul Davis Restoration. Local Paul Davis staff and volunteers hung drywall and installed ceiling tiles in the Kisielewskis’ basement.

THURMONT, Md. – Adam Kisielewski helps design programs and robots that allow doctors to treat patients around the world as part of Fort Detrick’s telemedicine research and Military Amputee Research Program, but finishing off the basement in his home was a bit beyond his skills.

“I had done this type of work in high school, but I had forgotten a lot of it,” Kisielewski said.

So he set out to finish off his basement. He got the framing for the walls up, but he decided he needed help with the drywall and acoustical ceiling tiles.

He contacted Cynthia McGrew at Operation Second Chance, an organization that assists wounded service men and women at Walter Reed Hospital along with providing additional assistance to returning war veterans and their families. Kisielewski, a marine, had become familiar with the organization because he had lost an arm and leg in Iraq.

Thurmont videos are a moving web experience

THURMONT, Md. – Now anyone wondering what Thurmont looks like can get a multi-media experience about the town on the Internet.

The town recently posted links to four videos featuring life in Thurmont. Each video last about 75 seconds. The videos show Thurmont’s attractions, quality of life, tourism and things to do, and economic development.
