The Thurmont Cooperative will be closing for good after serving the local farm community for almost 80 years. The co-op survived three fires, the most recent of which occurred on New Year’s Day 2006.

Thurmont co-op closing

After nearly 80 years and having survived three fires, the Thurmont Cooperative, at 36 Walnut Street, will be closing its doors for good.

“Between the farming economic conditions and considerable financial problems, we are closing down definitely,” said co-op board president Jack Heflin.

Myers farm annexation could pay for itself

Thurmont sewer rates to rise to pay for repairs

THURMONT, Md. – Thurmont’s sewer rates are about to rise as the bill comes due for sewer repairs in Thurmont.

“The board will have to approve it, but I would like it done as soon as possible because we have to start paying on the loan,” Mayor Martin Burns said.

Thurmont Clerk/Treasurer Rick May confirmed that he is preparing the information and documents that are needed for the commissioners to enact the increase.
