EMMITSBURG, Md. – On August
9, Mike Hillman was like a kid at Christmas as he watched
an approaching storm. He stood outside at a fence as
the breeze picked up and whipped at the trees. He looked
west as the gathering storm clouds obscured his view
of the Catoctin Mountains and smiled.
He climbed over the wooden fence and stood in what had
been pasture but was now a growing dirt patch. He kicked
at the ground stirring up a little dust cloud.

Blakeslee
appointed Thurmont
chief administrative officer
THURMONT, Md. – Thurmont has gained a chief administrative
officer and lost a town commissioner. Commissioner Bill Blakeslee
has accepted the position effective Nov. 1.
“He
has done more for this town than anybody possibly realizes
at his own peril and expense,” said Mayor Martin Burns
when he announced the appointment at the town meeting on Aug.

Nominating
Convention calls for town candidates!
THURMONT, Md. – If you want to run or you want someone
to run for the two Thurmont town commissioner seats that will
be open this year, the best time to make your wishes known is
at the Thurmont Nominating Convention on August 28.
“You
come with the people who support you and want you to run for
office and they nominate you,” said Mayor Martin Burns.
The
recent changes to the town’s charter has moved the nominating
convention up from late September to the last Tuesday in August
