1,600 attend Thurmont's
business expo
THURMONT, Md. - Thurmont
business owners and members of the community flooded the
two gymnasiums and lobby of Catoctin High School on the
evening of March 30, for the Third Annual Thurmont Business
Expo.
Thurmont Commissioner
Bill Blakeslee believes that this year’s expo drew
in around 1,600 patrons, if not more. “It was virtually
impossible to get an exact number. We had people coming
and going from multiple entrances,” he said.
The Thurmont Economic Development Commission established
the expo in 2005 to emphasize local businesses in the

Last-minute
change postpones annexation vote
Thurmont’s Planning and Zoning Commissioners postponed
a decision on the 209.5-acre Myers Farm annexation last
week after developer Tom Hudson changed his original request.
The new annexation plan, presented at a meeting March
22, proposed leaving a large area of agricultural zoning
but would also retain approximately 448,000-square feet
of retail zoning.

Thurmont
Middle School teacher guilty
FREDERICK, Md. – Thurmont Middle School teacher
Michelle Dohm was found guilty on Monday April 2 on five
counts of making false bomb threats to five different
students at the school.
“The
defendant is in fact responsible for the creation and
delivery of these five documents,” Frederick County
Circuit Court Judge Julie Stevenson Solt said after hearing
a statement of facts read into the record. The documents
were essentially bomb threats sent to five different students
in Thurmont.
Solt presided over the trial, which lasted less than an
hour. Dohm pled not guilty to an agreed-upon statement
of facts. Because of this, Dohm gave up her right to a
jury trial and the right to hear and call witnesses. On
