THURMONT,
Md. – What will be lurking in the shadows of Community
Park on the night of Saturday, Oct. 21?
Ghosts?
Goblins? Witches?
It will
probably be all and more as the park will host Thurmont’s
annual Halloween in the Park event. The park’s gates
will open at 6 p.m.
“This
year, as in previous years, your admission to the event will
be a canned food item,” said Town Commissioner Wayne
Hooper.
He said
last year, the town collected a truckload of canned food for
the food bank and he hopes to do it again this year.
As in
past years, the first event of the evening will be a solemn
procession through the park.
Because
the event is family-focused, many activities are planned for
children. This includes:
• A gingerbread house with treats
• Mom and Me Productions Halloween skit
• Khan Du Magician
• Zoony Balloons Balloon Artists
• Storytime with the Thurmont Library
• A fortune teller
The town
has also instituted a number system for the haunted hayride
put together by Death Valley, Inc. and ESP Productions. Each
person coming into the park will be given a number and when
that person’s time for the haunted hayride comes up,
the number will be announced on the P.A. system. Hooper said
the goal of this is to minimize the lines of people waiting
for the hayride.
“Last
year, we had an estimated 1,200 people that went through,”
Hooper said. He expects at least that many people to attend
the event this year.
Free
refreshments will also be available at the large pavilion.
