Thurmont:
A Maryland Main Street Community
Workers
from Shannon/Baum in Eldersburg erected four
signs provided by the State of Maryland that
recognize Thurmont as a Main Street Community.
The signs were put up April 18 near the Burger
King, on Route 77 east, at the Route 806 and
U.S. 15 intersection and near Thurmont Elementary
School.

Few
attend
planning
workshop
THURMONT,
Md. – Thurmont resident Sabrina Massett has lived in
town for 48 years – nearly all of her life. She attended
a workshop to gather public input for the Thurmont Master
Plan on Monday, May 15 because she wants to have a part in
planning the future of the town.
“I love
this town and I want to be proactive rather than reactive,”
Massett said. “We need a vision.”

Thurmont's
mandatory recycling starts July 1
THURMONT, Md. – Though Thurmont residents have trash pick-up
once a week, they could soon see BFI garbage trucks in town
five days a week.
“They
would divide the town into zones and still collect it once
a week,” said Thurmont Commissioner Ron Terpko. “It
would be less costly. They would only need one person per
truck, no overtime and fewer runs.”

'Eisenhower
convoy' reenactment set for June 28
EMMITSBURG, Md. – The Maryland State Highway Administration
has scheduled June 28 as the date the 1919 “Eisenhower
convoy” will stop at the South Seton Rd. bridge over Toms
Creek for a commemoration ceremony and the unveiling of a historic
marker.
The event
is being planned to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the
creation of the national highway system, for which President
Dwight D. Eisenhower was the leading proponent. Eisenhower’s
inspiration to establish a national highway network began
in 1919 when he joined a military experiment to see how fast
the army could get from coast to coast.
