Thurmont’s
electric rate
to climb 42%

THURMONT, Md. – Electric rates in Thurmont will increase by 42 percent over the next year, beginning with a 26 percent increase next month.

David Downes with Downes Associates presented the Thurmont town commissioners with what the electric rates for town residents will be next month. He explained the increase will be a two-step process that will be phased in over a year beginning next month.

Sheriff's office still wants space in Thurmont 

THURMONT, Md. – Although the Thurmont Town Commissioners voted to build the Thurmont Police station on their own last month, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office still wants to have space in the new station.

The town commissioners, Thurmont Police Commission members, county representatives, Sheriff James Hagy and members of the sheriff’s office met in a closed session March 7 to discuss how a joint project might still go forward.

Pa. House votes to ban Gettysburg casino

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- A bill proposed by Rep. Stephen Maitland to ban stand-alone casinos in Adams County unanimously passed in the state House of Representatives March 14, and will now head to the senate.

The representative's proposed bill would ban stand-alone casinos in Pennsylvania counties with a population of between 91,000 and 92,000, which would include Adams County. Maitland told The Dispatch his amendment casino to the 2004 slots regulations which would ban an Adams County casino had only been before the House less than 10 days before it was adopted.
