THURMONT,
Md. – With the coming of the warm summer weather, farmers
will be bringing their harvests into town for the second annual
Thurmont Farmers’ Market.
“There
will be plenty of parking,” said Thurmont’s Main
Street Manager Vickie Grinder. “You can pull right up
to the vendor’s tent.”
The market
will be held at the carnival grounds near the Boundary Avenue
entrance every Saturday, July 1 through Sept. 30 from 9 a.m.
to noon.
Homemade
pies, apple dumplings, breads, produce, milk, cheese and eggs
will all be available.
Following
the market’s successful first year, the Thurmont Economic
Development Commission made some adjustments to improve the
farmers’ market.
“What
it comes down to is ‘Buy Local’ and while you’re
at the farmers’ market wander down Main Street or any
of the shops in Thurmont,” Grinder said.
This
year’s sellers had to submit an application committing
to be at the market every Saturday during the summer.
Grinder
said the purpose of farmers’ market is to get more economic
activity and people in town.
“That’s
the whole purpose of the economic development commission,”
she said.
