This
year’s Thurmont Farmers’ Market
starts on July 1 and runs every Saturday through
September at the town carnival grounds. Last
year’s farmers’ market featured
eight local growers selling their products on
Saturday mornings. This year’s market
promises to be even larger.

New
construction required to avoid tax rate increases
THURMONT,
Md. – Next year, all of Thurmont’s road resurfacing
– the senior center parking lot, Tippin Court, Tippin
Drive to Gateway Drive, Shipley Avenue and Boundary Avenue
from North Church Street to Carroll Street – will be
paid for by the construction of homes in Jermae Estates.
This
is just one example of how Thurmont’s budget is growing
dependent on fees generated by growth. The town commissioners
instituted impact fees on new development last year. Between

Third
possible annexation, east of town
THURMONT, Md. – Pressure on Thurmont to grow continues
from the north, south, and now, the east. Thurmont’s only
hard border is to the west where national and
state lands limit how much the town can expand.
The newest interest in annexation comes from the Lawyer family
and Beazer Homes of Columbia. Mayor Martin Burns saidall of

Farmers'
market returns to Thurmont in July
THURMONT, Md. – With the coming of the warm summer weather,
farmers will be bringing their harvests into town for the second
annual Thurmont Farmers’ Market.
“There
will be plenty of parking,” said Thurmont’s Main
Street Manager Vickie Grinder. “You can pull right up
to the vendor’s tent.”
