THURMONT,
Md. – Need your house cleaned? One of the town commissioners
or perhaps the chief of police would be happy to do it for a
price.
“We’ll
be auctioning off the commissioners and other people to do
some type of household duty,” said Thurmont Main Street
Manager Vickie Grinder.
The auction
will be held at 6:15 p.m. during Thurmont’s ‘50s
and ‘60s Night on Saturday, July 29. The event will
be held at the carnival grounds from noon to 10 p.m.
“Last
year, we had over 1,000 people in attendance,” Grinder
said. “I’m sure there will be even more this year.”
This
will be the fifth year for the ‘50s and ‘60s Night,
but it will be the first year for the celebrity auction. On
the auction block are: Mayor Martin Burns, Frederick County
Commissioner Mike Cady and his wife Darlene, Thurmont Commissioner
Bill Blakeslee, Thurmont Commissioner Ron Terpko, Thurmont
Commissioner Wayne Hooper, Thurmont Commissioner Glenn Muth,
Thurmont Police Chief Greg Eyler, John Kinnaird, Vickie Grinder
and Carole Davis.
Grinder
said the actual jobs the celebrities will be auctioned off
to do won’t be revealed until the auction.
“The
minimum bid will be $25 and all of the money goes to Halloween
in the Park,” Grinder said. “Since the size of
the Halloween in the Park doubled last year, we want to make
sure we have enough money this year to do it well.”
Winning
bids can be paid with either cash or check.
Besides
the auction, ‘50s and ‘60s Night will also feature
live music from “Catoctin Promise” and “Big
Cam and the Lifters.” There will also be an antique
car show. Leo’s Game Room has donated a jukebox to be
given away and other local businesses have donated various
prizes. Employees from The Beauty Parlor and Dee’s Beauty
Salon will be on hand to create 1950s hairstyles for both
men and women.
The ‘50s
and ‘60s Night is sponsored by the Thurmont Parks Commission.
