considers stormwater storage site
THURMONT,
Md. – The town could safely store as much as 2.5 million
gallons of diluted “wild water” (also called infiltration
and inflow or I&I), if a 10-acre site available for sale
can accommodate a significant retention pond.

to send out police station RFP
THURMONT, Md. – Projected costs for a joint facility for
Thurmont police and the county sheriff’s office still seemed
unreasonable to commission members at their Jan. 3 town meeting.
The commissioners,
struggling to understand design needs and associated costs for
the joint police building, finally decided to send out RFPs
(requests for proposal) to several architectural firms.

MDCC
receives conditional approval in Freedom
FREEDOM TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The town board of supervisors
unanimously granted conditional approval to Mason-Dixon Country
Club, Inc.’s (MDCC) conditional use application.
MDCC
has proposed a half-billion dollar, 867-acre “golf community”
of more than 1,160 homes interlaced with a golf complex spanning
Freedom Township and a portion of northern Frederick County,
Md. According to Freedom Township regulations, golf communities
are permitted in the affected zones only as a conditional
use.

tree recycling
Town residents who want to recycle their Christmas
trees may take them to Eyler Park for pickup on
Jan. 9. Signs will indicate the tree drop-off
spot. Town employees will remove the trees for
