Digging Out from the year’s first snowfall


Chris Yingling of Carroll Street in Thurmont learns that the only way to win a snowball light is with more power, as his father Steve Yingling sends a torrent of snow in his son’s direction. Frederick County saw less than 14 inches of snow from the Feb. 11 snowstorm that dumped more than two feet of snow in New York City.

Thurmont's recycling
will expand

THURMONT, Md. – Not only will 166 homes in Pleasant Acres and Jermae get curbside recycling provided by Frederick County, about 80 homes in Bennett Estates should have been receiving curbside pick-up of recycled goods and have not.

Drug arrest may have gang connection 

THURMONT. Md. – A Feb. 1 traffic stop in Thurmont resulted in two drug-related arrests, and also showed Thurmont police there may be gang-related drug activity in town.

On Wednesday, Feb. 1 about 10:06 p.m., Deputy Jeffrey Eyler with the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office stopped a car on North Church Street near Altamont Avenue for a window tinting violation and a partially covered license plate.

Thurmont begins replacing park equipment 

THURMONT, Md. – Cut metal posts at ground level are all that remain to show where spring-mounted animals once wobbled back and forth in the Community Park. A sliding board in the upper park has slipped away. Other parks will lose their jungle gyms.

It’s the first phase of the Town of Thurmont’s effort to replace some of its older and worn-out playground equipment.
