Wastewater contract likely
to be awarded in November

THURMONT, Md. – A contract for overhauling the town’s wastewater collection system will likely be awarded during November, according to a Richard K. May, Thurmont clerk-treasurer.

To date, the town has received two bids to perform the proposed work, according to May.

He said the low bidder for the project was Ross Construction, Inc., Mt. Airy, which came in at $1.6 million. W.F. Delauter & Son submitted the high bid at $1,872,77, May said. He added that the town does not anticipate receiving any other bids.

The current bidding round is the town’s second effort at awarding a contract. The initial round produced a single bid of about $1.9 million from Delauter, who subsequently helped redraft the bids specs when town administrators felt his bid was too high.

“They had a budget of $1.2 million for the project,” Delauter told The Dispatch. When his bid proved too high, Delauter helped the town redraft the specs to trim down the proposed scope for the re-bidding process. Then he lost the bid to Ross.

May said the town would like to begin the work sometime in December, necessitating the awarding of the contract in the weeks ahead.

New Weis Markets superstore
is coming to Thurmont

On Oct. 28 Weis Markets held a groundbreaking ceremony for their new superstore in Thurmont.

The 53,700 square foot store will be located near McDonalds at the southwest part of town, on Old 15 near the Rt.15 Thurmont Exit. It will be the 24th Weis Market in the state, and “one of the largest stores we’ve built in Maryland,” Dennis Curtin, Director of Public Relations, told The Dispatch.
